"from the fatal, blessing be obtained"*

Last weekend was odd. Some parts were awesome. We beat Yale and Brown in basketball. Those games were more fun than usual. Some new people have started coming to band, so it was nice to get some variety in friends. I also was in withdraw from my band friends over break and the game provided a perfect opportunity to catch up.

It was nearly 50 degrees on Sunday. I took a walk in Riverside Park. My shoes got really salt-y, but they've recovered. Then I got a really delicious steamer from Starbucks. I was in a bit of a funk following some sad news, so it helped cheer me up.

I'm reading a lot of cool stuff for my seminar (Global literature: new world utopians and rebels), like Thomas Paine and Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz. It's really inspiring, beautiful stuff. We're also doing some history of South and Latin Americas' pathes to independence. My prof is so much better than my English prof last semester. It's a really nice change. But he assigns 100-150 pages to read for each class (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and it's been difficult to balance with everything else. But I'm hardly working this year, so I have faith that I will balance it out.

I have a lot of work to do, but most of my textbooks have arrived. It's almost my birthday, so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I think I want to go out for cupcakes. It is a little hard to plan because it's on a Monday...

My lab partner in biology today spoke just like the star of The House Bunny, which was really distracting/amusing. It was hard to take her seriously. She also didn't really know what was going on, so... haha.

I swear I am planning letters in my head. I need to get on that. But this should suffice in the mean time, yes?

I really miss home right now. Like I said, kind of a funk. I think this week will be better, though.

Sincerely,

Sara

  1. They are showing The House Bunny this Wednesday for free. Go, y/n? I think I'm going to, hee. And also to Were the World Mine, soon soon soon! I am superexcited to watch this movie, you don't even know.

You should go and eat pie for your birthday. I want pie so bad. Damn it all, Pushing Daisies. Find a good pie place in the city and I will take you there when I come up in May (which reminds me, should go and buy tickets at some point >>).

Also, Axis of Awesome. You should be BFF with "4 Chords" and "Birdplane" and "How to Bake a Scone," because I am. I am really tempted to buy their album so that my repeated listenings to "4 Chords" will count on last.fm.

  2. dear sara,
i'm sorry your lab partner is a lab bunny (lol). that is unfortunate. but at least it's biology right? a bunny in a chem lab just wouldn't work out.
i dont know i was trying to make some kind of rabbit joke. i've got nothing to work with. haha =]

i am so jealous of you. 50 degrees! able to go to games! really. jealous. although i guess here 30 degrees feels like a balmy florida sun, since it's been so cold lately. this week it was that balmy 30. i pulled out my spring jacket, and other crazy kids pulled on their shorts and t-shirts.
you can tell who is from wisconsin. everyone from the south and the west coast wear their hardcore winter parkas still and everyone else just walks around in things that technically don't keep most people warm, but we're crazy northerners, so our bodies are magical like that. =]

what else is new. i really discovered (well it's not like i didn't know this before... when i was little i advocated for wolf rights and protection and saving them. lol. when i was like 5. haha) .. i discovered that i really dig environmental conservation .duh. but i mean the class is amazing. so i'm glad i decided that my major[s] are spanish and international studies: environmental global commons --> focusing on environmental conservation. yayy. =]

oh. and the other class i really enjoy, even though i have to get up uber early (Well it's at 7:45, so actually later then i did in high school but college early times are anything before 10, right. lol) but it's great. obv because it's a running class. and we all know i'm a crazy run for funner. =]

hmm. all my other classes are alright (macroeconomics, spanish, and geography 101) only i DONT like geography because the professor sucks at teaching and lecturing. and my TA makes me want to die of boredom. but if i read the book i relax because it's actually interesting. the people who spread the word aren't. w t H!. lol. =]

ummmm. yeah. and that's mostly my life i suppose. i dont have time to have a life. boo. well i guess i do but i choose to try and study instead? because i feel like i dont study enough. because of work. and running. and talking to my boyfriend. and talking to friends.
i do but i feel like i never know enough. but its cool. i dont need partays. just people that love me =] and then thats fine. haha.

anywho. i have officially written you a novel. i hope all is well =]]]]

  3. TO AR:
Yes, go see The House Bunny. But don't expect much, lol. And then imagine working on a lab with her. ugh.

mmmmm pie. I am thinking of going to Crumbs, except I don't think they have indoor seating and uh, it is winter. Going to a bakery around here is another option. hmmmm. and yes, buy tickets omg.

I LOVE THAT SONG! OMG I totally listened to it eight thousand times last night when I was working on my essay! thanks! and yes, you should totally buy their album and send it to me. :p

    TO VANESSA:
haha, I see where you were going. I would be worried for a rabbit in chem lab. It would probably already be in a test tube. In bio lab we could be dissecting it, but we could also be observing it or something stupid like we usually do.

oh man, you can do the same thing with the California kids here. And the kids from the frozen tundra, like Wisconsin and Alaska.

Is it possible to ever study enough? I don't think so. Your classes sound fun. I wish I had a little more variety in my schedule, but my masochism won't allow it, heh.
