lean on, sheena

I really needed this weekend. It has been one of those weekends that reinforces your faith in humanity. Well, I probably can't equate my life outlook with humanity, but it's the internet, so I will do what I please.

After a depressing conversation with two of my floormates on Thursday night, my unhappiness with Barnard had reached a new high. Friday wasn't much better, unless you consider crying in your professor's office hours for no apparent reason a hallmark of decent. Which you should do because it is horrifyingly embarrassing. Apparently I am more stressed out than I thought, because his comments on my paper were not what set me off.

Anyway, with that kind of start, I was not looking forward to this weekend. I was not looking forward to anything except perhaps being dead. But duty called and I found myself watching the women lose to Harvard. After the game I attended the first half of EXPOSED, the black heritage month fashion show/cultural event of the season. lol. It started 45 minutes late. Seriously, what the fuck?

The scenes were pretty good, and the dance/walking was excellent. However, the clothes were pretty ugly and they didn't even give all of the models clothes. Some people had to just wear their own. :( The designers were not Columbia students, but all of the models were. Two of my floormates were super hot models in the show. Top Model fierce to the max.

I left at intermission because it was already midnight. I played a very amusing game of Apples to Apples in which Anne Frank was equated with Hitler and it totally made sense. haha. Long story.

Saturday I slept until 10:45am. Amazing! I studied a bit and then went to the basketball game. It was actually really fun. The women lost to Dartmouth by one point. It was a real heartbreaker.

Saturday night we dressed up as sneaky ninjas to take an adventure. We had codenames. Jaclyn was Panther, Elizabeth was Black Rabbit and we never decided on a codename for me. Some of my suggestions were Rotting Flesh and Frostbite. Um, they didn't go over well. I was having a hard time thinking of something black and deadly, yet unexpected.

We met up with a few more friends who didn't have very good ninja costumes and ran around Columbia. We went into the tunnels and had quite an excellent adventure. I'm not sure how much I should write about it on here, haha. But I will say that seeing the seedy underbelly of Columbia and feeling like I was about to die several times was envigorating. I felt connected to the university community in a way that I never have before. I am pretty sure I would hate college if it weren't for my friends in the band. :)

After teaching I toured a few of the dorms today. I am super excited about housing. Most of the dorms are really nice. As long as I don't get stuck in Hewitt or Elliot, I will be a happy kid. If I get Hewitt or Elliot, I am considering a cardboard box on College Walk. That would be cool.

We are supposed to get 8-12 inches by 6pm tomorrow. I wish I had classes that would get cancelled, haha. But I think most of my profs live in Morningside Heights. Damn.

I am sorry that I don't update that much during the week. But I can't imagine you are really curious about how my E&M homework is going.

Luyang commented that I actually sounded happy today. It's a start.

Allow me to kiss your hand, your most favored*

  1. YOU WENT INTO THE TUNNELS UNDER COLUMBIA.

WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THIS. YOU WILL BE EATEN BY REVENANTS AND THEN WHAT.

...That would be a good codename, actually. The Revenant.

If you try and have a good week, I will, too. I managed to write a short piano piece tonight, and if I can do that, you can do anything.
